When Cecilia Manor looks back on her earliest school memories, she remembers the warmth and encouragement she felt at Brightpoint Head Start. Growing up in a low-income household, her family worried about providing the strong educational foundation she deserved. That changed when a Brightpoint family advocate arrived at their door—an introduction that, in Cecilia’s words, “felt like the start of my story.”
From ages three to five, Head Start became a second home. With supportive teachers like Miss Pat, Miss Jennie, and Miss Megan, Cecilia discovered her love of learning. She read her first book, learned her first song, and took her first steps toward independence. What stayed with her most was the environment: safe, caring, and full of possibility.
Even then, she dreamed of becoming a nurse. The work ethic and confidence her teachers fostered helped guide her through school, shaping her into the dedicated and passionate person she is today. Now, more than twenty years later, she proudly signs her name as Cecilia, BSN, RN—a reflection of the dreams that took root in her earliest classroom.
“Without the drive and passion they instilled in me,” Cecilia says, “I wouldn’t be where I am today.” Brightpoint Head Start continues to offer children and families the same foundation of stability and encouragement that helped launch Cecilia’s journey.
